Bollards May Be Installed To Block
ATV and Motorcycle Use On Pedestrian Path
5.14.09- With ATV's and motorcycles
using the pedestrian path between the north boundary of Pasadena
Estates and the I-595 Park of Commerce, District 3 Councilmember
Susan Starkey expressed concern at the May 6, 2009 Council Meeting
about the need to place bollards for traffic control on the path.
The paved buffer, part of the
Town of Davie trail system, is designed for pedestrian use, and was
intended for students moving between neighborhoods and the local
schools at Nob Hill and S.R. 84. The idea was to increase pedestrian
safety by taking them away from the busy, dangerous (and unprotected)
sidewalk along S.R. 84 and to prevent motor vehicle/pedestrian accidents. Since
this new path was constructed however, there have been several incidents
involving the use of motorized vehicles on the path, at high speeds.
The Town Administrator has
been asked to look into the cost and placement of bollards (thick
low posts to stop vehicular traffic) on the path.
If you have any
comments about the need for bollards at this location, please make
Councilmember Starkey aware of your concerns or ideas.

3.7.09- The new Association Board
faces an interesting year on a number of fronts:
-
Legislation is pending in the Florida Legislature which may
alter the laws pertaining to the governance of Homeowner's
Associations throughout the state. If passed, any changes in
Chapter 720 of the Florida Statutes could take place this
year. To see a Florida House of Representatives analysis of
one bill and a list of others with links, click
here.
-
Additionally,
as the Legislature deals with the foreclosure crisis, a bill
has been introduced in Tallahassee that deals with the
duties of lenders to pay association fees for foreclosed
properties, when those payments may be required and the
maximum exposure for association fees of lenders who
foreclose on properties. To see H.B. 633, click

As
expansion work begins on I-595 this spring and summer, there
will be more discussion about the eventual placement of a
light-rail mass transportation route along the S.R. 84/I-595
corridor. Planning, design and placement of transit stations
has the potential to affect the future value of your home,
given the proximity of Pasadena Estates to the Nob Hill
intersection with the currently proposed route, which is on
the south side of the interstate, extending from just east
of Weston toward Fort Lauderdale and I-95. See the
Community Poll page to register your opinion on
property values and mass transit in our community.
-
As
major construction starts this summer, how will the
construction of "braided ramps" affect the Nob Hill
intersection with the Interstate, and will it affect traffic
flow into and out of Pasadena Estates? For more on the new
style ramps, click

and explanations.

As
the Town of Davie struggles to maintain services with less
and less revenue from Tallahassee, what services and
programs are at risk in Davie? Will programs be cut back?
Will the quality of life in Davie be threatened by budget
cuts?
All of
these issues, plus developments at the Broward County and Town
of Davie levels will require monitoring by the Board and
community members.

Davie Fire Department Brings On-Site CPR/AED Training to
Signature Grand
3.4.09-
The Town of Davie’s Fire Rescue Department recently brought its
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillation
(CPR/AED) Training Program to local banquet establishment,
Signature Grand. Banquet managers and other staff members took
part in the comprehensive hands-on training that included: how
to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies,
rescue breathing, airway obstruction/choking, infant/child and
adult CPR, and how to use an AED on an adult.
Mr. Chip Stanton, Chief
Engineer at Signature Grand who coordinated the program with
Davie and also participated in the training, said, “Assistant
Fire Chief Julie Downey provided us
with excellent service to ensure that our staff is well trained,
and she was also very helpful with the installation process of
the automated external defibrillation unit.” Mr. Stanton went
on to say, “The members of Davie Fire Rescue who provided the
on-site training, were well informed, very excited to teach, and
also had a good sense of humor.”
It’s a fact – knowing CPR
can save lives! The number of cardiac emergencies and injuries
Americans suffer each year alone underscores the importance of
CPR training for everyone. Davie Fire Rescue’s training program
has been updated to reflect the standards as outlined by the
Emergency Cardiac Care Committee.
According to the American
Heart Association (Americanheart.org), “There are about 1.2
million new and recurring coronary attacks per year, and of
these 37% die.” It can happen anywhere: on the street, at
home, at work, or at a restaurant.
Classes are taught by
skilled instructors who teach the correct procedures, and
students are given the opportunity to practice new skills on a
realistic mannequin.
